Screen Printing Equipment

You can’t even have a printing shop without printing equipment. So what equipment do you need, and where do you get it from?

At minimum, you will require a printing press for screen printing. An automatic screen printing press is excellent for reducing production time and saving on labor costs, while making room for more orders. You will also want a film output printer for your films that you will be burning your screens with. Make sure to have some way of drying the apparel after printing too. There are different machines for this you can find also. And you need an exposure unit to expose the screens. A pressure washer will be needed for washing screens. A scoop coater will of course be needed, as well as a flash cure.

Now, if you have the money and resources you can buy these brand new. But you may want to buy some of these things used to save yourself some money. Just make sure you bring someone along who knows a thing or two about screen printing so you don’t get swindled into buying bad equipment that will leave you having to spend more money, or screw you over during the production process. If you have any colleagues or friends in the printing business you will want to ask them for references, or even buy the equipment straight from them. They may also know some friends of their own, or business connections, or maybe some reliable shops where you can get second hand equipment for a reasonable price that will not fall apart on you. Its takes experience and knowledge over time to recognize reliable machines, etc, so it may be difficult to find good equipment on your own when first starting out.

As you use the equipment you will notice you need supplemental tools and cleaning/maintenance items also. You can check the user’s manual for these items, and you may also notice what you need as you start printing your garments. Again, this comes with the experience you will gain along the way.
